- In early 2017, Custom Barns and Construction completed a state-of-the art Hunting Lodge that demonstrated the capabilities and personalization that has made our name synonymous with flexibility, personalization and hard work. We began the project with our computer rendering service, which allowed the client to see what the completed structure would look like. This 11,000 square foot facility is centered around a great room which boasts Oregon Douglas Fir beams shaping its cathedral ceiling, and whose open concept incorporates a full kitchen with granite countertops and Knotty Alder cabinetry. The room’s focal piece is an Austin stone lined floor-to-ceiling fireplace, hearth and accent wall. The floors feature hand-scraped ceramic wood-look tile. Due to its isolated location, we backed up the facility’s power with a standalone generator to ensure comfort during any electrical grid failure. The lodge features LED lighting throughout to ensure energy efficiency, and the 3-zone heating and air system ensure that the interior climate is easily managed and maintained, due to the Spray-Foam Insulation we encourage on all our projects. In the event of dangerous weather, the facility also has its own storm shelter. The lodge’s guests are housed in the custom climate-controlled 4 bedroom, 3 bathroom portion of the facility, which include custom built-in closets and bunks and feature oversized windows of the surrounding property, which was landscaped with 25 trees and shrubs. Along with greenery landscape, the extensive dirt work required by this project included a large stone retaining wall which provides erosion control and gives the property a distinct character. Another project-specific element is the 25-foot by 100-foot quail flight pen. On the occasion that the guests actually spend their time ‘Hunting’ rather than ‘Lodging’, they are comfortably welcomed back through the Utility and Mudroom. And once back to the lodge, they can can relax in the lodge’s Game Room. The character of the Lodge is further enhanced by seven custom interior sliding barn doors, seven exterior overhead doors, and custom Hill Country Iron doors.
